Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places to visit. I was fortunate to travel for 6 days in September with Holidays on Location and Tourism Switzerland.
We started in Zurich and I was blown away with how beautiful it was to wander the streets looking at all of the buildings covered in flower pots on their window sills. A lunch cruise out on Lake Zurich was a great way to relax and perfect to recover from the long flight. The up and coming Industrial Area is very trendy with great bars, pop up shops and restaurants.
We travelled everywhere by train and were able to see some amazing scenery along the way. Zermatt was our next stop and this was one of my favourite places. We were lucky enough to have a clear day and the Matterhorn was amazing to see. The quaint town has no cars, amazing walks, skiing in the winter, great food and really something for everyone.
We had a wonderful day in the Grindlewald, travelling up the mountain by cable car and walking on the new cliff walk. My legs are still shaking! We travelled down by Trottibike which was a lot of fun. I was able to try some traditional rosti and lots of cheese.
The French area of Montreux and Lausanne was surrounded by vineyards and fresh produce. The food was lovely and we had a walking tour of Chillon Castle. The backdrop of Lake Geneva and the mountains takes your breath away.
Switzerland has it all, great food, local wine, stunning scenery, lovely people, snow, walks, activities for all ages and most of all chocolate!
The best part of Switzerland is that almost every city has a River running through it so we boarded another boat to see Basel from the water. Another fun, clean and fascinating city with beautiful squares, lots of great restaurants and flower pots everywhere.
I have been lucky enough to travel to Lucerne on previous trips to Europe but I am still blown away by its beauty and it was great way to finish our trip. We travelled on a cruise around Lake Lucerne to the base of Mount Pilatis and boarded the world’s steepest cogwheel train. The views are spectacular and there is a lot to do for all ages. We had some fun on the walks and also on the summer toboggan run.
Walking through the cobble stone streets and admiring the beautiful buildings is one of my favourite things to do in Europe and Switzerland is a great place to be able to do this.
