I was fortunate enough to spend a month in Jordan and Egypt in April with my sister.
We traveled throughout Jordan with G Adventures on a comfort level trip. Our guide was wonderful and provided such a great insight to how locals live, the wonderful sights and traditional food and customs. The accommodation was fantastic and provided a mixture of comfort as well as being in great locations. We even stayed in a desert lodge at Wadi Rum.
Floating in the Dead Sea was an unforgettable experience, something I had always wanted to do. The Roman ruins of Jerash were some of the most well-preserved I have seen. The highlight of my time in Jordan was fulfilling my dream to visit Petra. It did not disappoint! I also attended the ceremony at night which was just lovely. You walk along the path to the Treasury that is light up only by candlelight and sit out the front listening to the local Bedouins play traditional instruments.
It was 10 years since I had visited Egypt and I had always had a burning desire to go back and explore more. We travelled with On the Go Tours and they were also wonderful. Our leader showed us to so many places that I don’t think would have been possible to find on our own. Seeing my sister’s face when she saw the pyramids for the first time is something I will never forget. One of the many highlights was travelling to see Abu Simbel. It is worth the early morning start! We also went in a hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings in Luxor which was
beautiful.
The highlight of my time in Jordan was fulfilling my dream to visit Petra. It did not disappoint!
We traveled up the Nile by a traditional wind operated Felucca. We got to see many of the amazing Temples in Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edu and Luxor and finished off with a very relaxing few days on the Red Sea at Hurghada. Our final stop was the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and seeing the tombs and mask of King Tutankhamen is a must do. The Royal Mummy room and the relics are very impressive and you could spend all day walking around.
Jordan and Egypt are such wonderful countries to visit and combine such a fantastic mix of culture, history, monuments and relaxing. You will definitely come home with life long memories.
